Renovation of a water treatment plant in Balakovo, Saratov Region, Russia
In LLC "Balakovskiye Mineralnyie Udobreniya", a fertilizer producing works in Balakovo, Saratov Region, Russia, the project for a water treatment plant renovation was completed. The process solution was chosen after the relevant pilot test, performed to check the operation modes and prove the equipment chosen.
For the Volga water pretreatment, the ultrafiltration process was preferred to the conventional system, in order to avoid big clarifiers and high chemical consumption. The ultrafiltration plant is used for removal of suspended solids and colloids with low-pressure hollow-fibre membranes made of a polymer (the range of the particles removed is from 0.03 to 0.1 μm).
In addition, the ultrafiltration process is able to remove suspended solids, turbidity and colour better than a conventional pretreatment system.
For desalinated water production, Reverse Amberpack technology was chosen. This is the system involving the counter-flow regeneration and the co-current supply of the feed water.
Reverse Amberpack developed by Rohm & Haas was preferred owing to strong base anion exchange resin IRA458RF, which can be used alone in a anion exchange filter, without any week base anion exchange resins and without the middle distribution system.
